Well we all know how much I like color by my project, so you can only imagine how excited I was to hear that someone else also wanted to focus on color as well. Food is a great way to create a colorful art piece. It is an extremely attractive thing in this world and if photographed the right way, can be transformed into an interesting photograph. You can just do so many things with food and take it into a ton of different directions that make food look exquisite. Like we saw on Sarah's theme page, food can be photographed to look appetizing for a graphic purpose, or you can put the food together to create an interesting composition.
If I were to create a piece using food, I think I would like to put the food together in some sort of landscape, like Sarah's first idea. I really like the idea of creating a composition using each color for each photograph. Like a landscape using all red food, or all blue food. I love looking at what artists have done with food in color in the past. The textures and shapes of the food easily form the natural shapes and look of things like trees, grass, etc. Especially because most, if not all, of the food we eat are found within the natural world. From looking at what Sarah has done with her first project, I can tell that a lot of research and hard work comes into creating a piece using food. I think that you have to look deeply at all different kinds of foods to create the right shape for each element of the design.
I think we’re on the same page with this one completely, I think that making landscapes out of food is very appealing approach. I put an artist on my blog that you should check out, his name is Carl Warner and he does some really interesting work with food. He creates landscapes that are totally comprised of food and their compositions are very strong. He also focuses on texture and how they all come together quite well; very similar to how you stitched your landscapes together with your project making it look almost seamless.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the artist Carl Warner's work that you posted Jeff. The landscapes that were created had a strong composition that really tied in the idea of food and art. Food can be manipulated in so many different ways that can create a visually interesting piece by just positioning and attention to details. Details are a fine thing to key in on when it comes to food. They have an appearance that draws the viewer in because it's something that is consumed rather than observed in art typically. The idea that food is found within the natural world closely parallels with Sarah's project and brings the environment, nature, food and art, into one.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said about how food resembles nature and how that made it easy for Sarah to use in her project. it could be an interesting path for her project 2 to see how she can compare and contrast food to nature. For example, a picture of a tree next to a picture of broccolli, etc.
ReplyDeleteI think color has a great impact on how food is perceived. bright vibrant colors can help make the food look appetizing, while dull colors or even black and white can make the viewer feel more uncomfortable about the state of the food as well. This project is something that is going to play with our receptions when playing with the color and creating a landscape. I think the first project was done well. The colors looked great in the compositions and it really pulled the viewer in.
